Park camping booked out: Marion Bay Plan B (not inventing pads)
What to do when Dhilba Guuranda-Innes campgrounds or Inneston lodges are full — Marion Bay commercial beds, day-trip from the gate, never squat on booked sites. Verify with Parks SA.

Best for: Peak-window visitors who will not invent a campsite
Unofficial guide — always verify track conditions, closures, fees and safety with Parks SA. Place photos are Wikimedia Commons / CC where credited — not official Parks SA imagery and not live conditions.
Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park vehicle entry, official Parks SA camping bookings and Inneston heritage lodges are never affiliated.

If Parks SA shows no pads or lodges for your dates, the decision is already made: do not invent a site on dunes, verge or someone else’s booking. Peak windows (Christmas/New Year, Easter, October long weekend, school holidays) fill early.
Marion Bay sits immediately outside the entrance. That is the Plan B commercial base. Warooka and Minlaton work as mid-peninsula beds on the Adelaide drive. Booking.com links elsewhere on this site may earn a commission — park camping and lodges never do.
Vehicle entry is still a separate official product for day visits. Overnight bookings often include vehicle entry — confirm on the specific Parks SA booking, do not assume.
The decision in one line

No official booking means no park overnight. Marion Bay is the closest legal commercial bed. Circling Pondalowie looking for a gap is how day-use fills and tempers break.
Agree the abort before you leave Adelaide: if Parks SA is full, you have already chosen Marion Bay or a same-day Stenhouse-only visit.
What “full” actually means
Parks SA lists Stenhouse Bay, Pondalowie (bush tent + caravan/trailer), Casuarina, Cable Bay, Shell Beach and Gym Beach as camp products, plus Inneston heritage lodges as a third product. Unpowered. Long-drop toilets common.
Listed planning figure: accommodation from about $27.50/night (checked 16 Aug 2026) — re-check live. This site is not a live inventory.
Plan B bases (commercial)
Marion Bay: immediately outside the entrance — closest for a 7am Stenhouse start.
Warooka / Minlaton: last larger services and useful mid-peninsula beds if Marion Bay is also tight.
Those towns are not park camping. They do not include Parks SA vehicle entry unless you still pay it for the day visit.
If you already hold a night
Screenshot the confirmation. Coverage inside the park is patchy. Day visitors must not use your pad as overflow.
Solid-fuel fires are seasonally banned (Parks SA 2025–26 list: 22 Nov 2025 – 1 Apr 2026 for this park — re-check). Firewood collection is prohibited. Gas except Total Fire Ban — verify CFS.
Official vs this page
Book and pay only on parks.sa.gov.au. Self-registration on site is card-only and internet is often slow — pay online first.
Not walked — planning from official accommodation pages. Confirm live before you drive.
FAQ
Tap a question to expand the answer.
Can I book park camping on Booking.com?
No. Official Parks SA camping and heritage lodges are never affiliated. Marion Bay / Warooka / Minlaton commercial stays may use Booking.com links on the Stay hub.
If camping is full, can I still day-visit?
Yes with a valid vehicle entry or pass (re-check live). Start at Stenhouse. Do not occupy booked camp pads.
Is Gym Beach a secret walk-up?
No. Gym Beach camp is official booking on a separate road. Walk-up in peak is not a plan.
