Itineraries
Guide updated · verify Parks SA the morning you go
These plans are built for real Innes logistics — about 3–3.5 hours each way from Adelaide, vehicle entry vs camping vs lodges, heat and fire windows, Gym Beach as a separate road, and unpatrolled water — not fantasy “every beach before lunch” checklists. Pick the plan that matches your group, then open it for a full timeline, packing notes and what to skip. Print from any plan page, or grab the free day-trip checklist and practical planner (PDF + HTML) anytime.
Every itinerary defers to Parks SA for walk status, fees, fire restrictions and alerts. Long walks and Gym Beach only appear where the plan names them — and only after you accept the access road and reverse-drive clock.
Still deciding day-trip vs overnight? Start with Plan your visit for fees, camping and fire/comms, then come back here for timed skeletons.
Which plan fits you?
- Half-day Stenhouse — late start, kids, or “we just need the lookout and home.” One formed loop + optional Cape Spencer; hard reverse clock if returning to Adelaide the same day.
- Full-day icons — Stenhouse + capes + Ethel if sand allows + one west-coast beach (usually Pondalowie). Best with a Marion Bay or park camp night.
- Overnight Pondalowie — official camp or lodge booked first; second-day Royston or Plaster Trail without the Adelaide reverse pressure.
- Family easy — jetty, stromatolites, formed lookout loop; no remote rock ledges or Gym Beach.
- Surfing-focused — Pondalowie only for competent unpatrolled-water surfers. No patrols; not a learn-to-surf plan.
If two plans both look tempting, take the shorter one. You can always add a stop later; you cannot invent hours on the drive home — or invent Gym Beach access on the Stenhouse–Pondalowie road.

4–5 hours on the ground (+ Adelaide drive)
Half-day: Stenhouse Bay & Cape Spencer
Best for: First visit with limited time, or a late arrival from Adelaide
Pay the vehicle permit, Visitor Centre if open, Stenhouse Bay Lookout Walk, then Cape Spencer and Ethel Beach if sand has left wreck metal showing — without pretending you can also do Gym Beach.

Full day on the ground (best with a Marion Bay or park camp night)
Full day: lookouts, lights, Ethel & Pondalowie
Best for: A first full day without trying to see everything
Stenhouse first, then Cape Spencer and West Cape, Ethel if the wreck is showing, then Pondalowie boardwalk — one west-coast beach, not every beach.

1–2 nights
Overnight: Pondalowie camp + second-day walk
Best for: Surf, stars, and a morning walk without the Adelaide reverse
